Saima Garden Club
Last fall when the weather forced us to stop our weekly gardening work sessions, we were sad to think we would need to wait several months before we would see the fruits of our labor. The wait is over! Things are popping up all over. You should swing by to see the new growth of dozens of varieties of plants in the Pollinator Patch garden and the Stairs to Nowhere Garden.
Even though there is room in both gardens for additional plants, we (Louise, Donna, Hilkka, Tina, Alice and Mike) decided that this week we should do a little spring cleaning around the Function Hall. The shrubs weathered the winter in good shape. Two low growing spring ephemeral flowers, pretty blue Siberian Squill (Scilla siberica) and tiny purple clusters of Grape Hyacinth added some nice color as they poked up through the matted leaves. Our removal of a great quantity of leaves gave them a little more “breathing room,” but also revealed spaces for additional colorful flowers. That will be our work for another week.
