SUMMER FESTIVAL 2001

We want to share with all our visitors, memories of 2001 Kesäjuhla.
First some thoughts from our Chairman for this event - Vilho Lucander.

SUMMER FESTIVAL
KESÄJUHLA REFLECTIONS

We can all rejoice with pride as we reflect on the 95th Summer Festival-Kesäjuhla held at the Finnish Center at Saima Park in Fitchburg, Ma. on June 23 & 24, 2001.  We saw over a thousand people enjoying the festivities, food, fellowship, sports, music, art, culture, speeches, etc.  With deep gratitude, I wish to thank all who gave of their time, effort, and talent to ensure this successful event and give us the faith that many more will follow in the years to come.

I especially wish to thank Mr. Jaakko Laajava, Finland's Ambassador to the United States, for visiting us; this was truly an honor for us from the Finnish Government and himself personally--Kiitos!  His presence signified the importance of our heritage and the efforts of our predecessors.  He praised Finnish people for helping to make America into what it is today.  He also reminded us that, while we Finns can he no nonsense people who are prepared for the worst, we can also be outgoing, talkative, and live to celebrate.

Näkemiin--Vilho Lucander, Chairman

SPORTS

People and events on the 23rd...

The Dance, music, dance troupe performance, the bonfire.

Sunday -
Things are unloaded, set up, prepared and getting ready for the crowds to arrive.
What did all these people do on the Sunday?  They mingled, ate good food, listened to music, looked at art, bought Finnish books and music...  ...listened to speeches, danced - enjoyed a great time with good friends. There is so much to show here, that we have several pages covering the sports events.  Two pages are up, and there is more to come....
